The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) has selected Blue Origin to provide launch services for the Mars Atmosphere and Volatile EvolutioN (MAVEN) mission. The MAVEN mission is scheduled to launch in late 2013 on a United Launch Alliance Atlas V 401 rocket from Space Launch Complex 41 at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, Fla.
“We’re honored to be selected by NASA to launch the MAVEN mission to Mars,” said Bob Smith, CEO of Blue Origin. “This award is a testament to the hard work of the Blue Origin team and our commitment to providing safe, reliable and affordable launch services for the government and commercial customers.”
The MAVEN mission will study Mars’ upper atmosphere to understand how the planet has lost most of its water over time. MAVEN will be the first mission dedicated to exploring Mars’ upper atmosphere and will complement NASA’s ongoing robotic exploration of the Red Planet.
“The MAVEN mission is a key part of our ongoing effort to understand the Red Planet,” said NASA Administrator Charles Bolden. “This launch will help us unlock the mysteries of Mars’ past and pave the way for future missions to the planet, including a human mission in the 2030s.”

The Artemis program is NASA’s effort to place astronauts on the lunar surface and develop an ongoing presence there. The program includes the construction of a lunar outpost, where astronauts will live and work for extended periods of time. The outpost will serve as a base for further exploration of the moon, and will also be a stepping stone for missions to Mars and beyond.
2022 is set to be an eventful year for human spaceflight! NASA’s work on the International Space Station is set to continue through at least September 2030, with commercial partner Boeing’s uncrewed flight test to and from the station taking place in the meantime. Additionally, by studying other planets and objects in our solar system, we can learn more about our own world and the universe around us.
NASA’s 20 centers and facilities across the country are dedicated to doing just that. As the only National Laboratory in space, we have a responsibility to use our unique capabilities to benefit all of humanity. We conduct research, testing, and development in a variety of areas in order to advance aeronautics, electric propulsion, and supersonic flight. We also study Earth’s climate, our Sun, and our solar system in order to better understand our place in the universe.

What are four things NASA is currently working on
This year, the space agency will be testing out Boeing’s Starliner for regular crew missions. They will also continue to fly expedition crews to and from the International Space Station with partner SpaceX. Lastly, they will launch NASA’s first private astronaut mission to the space station with Axiom Space. All of these new missions show the space agency’s dedication to exploration and expanding its capabilities.
The satellite’s five instruments observe Earth’s atmosphere, ocean, land, snow and ice, providing insights into Earth systems such as the water, carbon and energy cycles. These systems are all interconnected, and changes in one can affect the others. For example, melting ice can affect the ocean’s circulation, which in turn can affect the climate. By understanding how these systems work together, we can get a better sense of how Earth functions as a whole.
Is space getting closer to Earth?
Voyager 2 is a spacecraft that is moving at a speed of 35,000 miles per hour (15 km/s). So, for a portion of the year, Earth comes around the side of the sun and is speeding toward the spacecraft faster than they’re moving away. Therefore their distances to Earth are getting closer, if only temporarily. They never change their outward motion.
The United States has long been a leader in the space race, with a cumulative number of objects launched into space that is more than double that of the next nearest country. Russia comes in second with just over half as many launches, while China is a distant third with less than a tenth of the US total. The UK rounds out the top five with a little over five hundred launches.
Will space ever stop expanding
The accelerated expansion of the universe due to dark energy is thought to be temporary. Eventually, dark energy will become attractive and cause the universe to start contracting. This process could take as little as 100 million years from now. After billions of years of growth, the universe could start to shrink.
A new ring system has been discovered orbiting a dwarf planet on the edge of the solar system. This is the first time a ring system has been found outside of the main planetary system. The ring system is thought to be composed of ice and dust particles, and is believed to be similar to the ring system around Saturn.
How long will space last?
22 billion years in the future is the earliest possible end of the Universe in the Big Rip scenario, assuming a model of dark energy with w = −15. This end of the Universe would be caused by the expansion of the Universe becoming so accelerated that it rips apart all matter and energy, ultimately leading to the end of time itself.
The space shuttle program began in 1981 with Columbia. NASA launched 133 shuttle missions over 30 years. The last mission was STS-135, launched on July 8, 2011. Atlantis completed a successful landing on July 21, 2011, at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida, bringing the space shuttle program to an end.
