SpaceX Starman, or rather the dummy that was launched into space on February 6, 2018 as part of SpaceX’s Falcon Heavy test flight, is currently orbiting Earth. According to SpaceX CEO Elon Musk, the dummy is “in a Tesla Roadster with a mannequin named ‘Starman’ at the wheel.” The car is equipped with several cameras, and you can check out its current location here.
The short answer is that Starman and his Tesla Roadster are currently orbiting the sun. More specifically, they are in an elliptical orbit that takes them as far out as the asteroid belt and as close in as the orbit of Mars.
What is the current location of Starman?
The SpaceX Roadster (Starman) is currently in the constellation of Sagittarius. The current Right Ascension is 19h 47m 38s and the Declination is -21° 41′ 44”.
It is with great sadness that we report that Starman, the SpaceX Roadster launched into space on the Falcon Heavy rocket, has gone dark.
The last signal we received from the car was on April 8th, 2018, and since then, it has been silent. It is possible that the batteries have run out, or that the car has suffered some other malfunction.

Where is Tesla Roadster in space now
The roadster has been quite the space traveler! It has logged more than 25 billion miles in space (4 billion kilometers), mostly through a barren vacuum. In 2020, the vehicle made its first close approach to Mars, passing within 5 million miles of the planet, or about 20 times the distance between the Earth and the moon. We’re not sure where the roadster will end up next, but we’re excited to see where its journey takes it!
This is exciting news for stargazers! The first of these close passes will occur on January 11, 2047. The distance is predicted to be about 3 million miles (48 million km), which is close enough that it can certainly be seen from Earth, about four times closer than the last reported observation of Starman from South Africa. Keep your eyes peeled and you might just be able to catch a glimpse of this incredible event!

The idea of having Starman listen to David Bowie’s Space Oddity and Life On Mars? during its journey is a really cool one. It’s a shame that the battery didn’t last long enough for it to hear the full songs.
It’s interesting to think about where Starman will end up after all these years. Cornell University researchers have predicted that it will eventually crash into Earth, Venus or the sun. However, it could take more than 10 million years for that to happen. It’s fascinating to think about what our world will be like by then and whether or not we’ll still be around to see it.

The half-life for the tested orbits was calculated as approximately 20 million years, but with trajectories varying significantly following a close approach to the Earth–Moon system in 2091 Musk had originally speculated that the car could drift in space for a billion years. For now, they’re both just going to keep on orbiting the sun. But Musk has said that he’d like to eventually send the Roadster on a more ambitious mission, perhaps to one of the outer planets in our solar system.
“I think it’d be pretty cool to send it to Mars orbit and then maybe to one of the Trojan asteroids,” Musk said in an interview with Aeon magazine in 2018.

The car will continue to move away from the planet at a speed of 16,027 mi/h (25,792 km/h, 716 km/s). It is currently 281,628,428 miles (453,237,161 km, 3030 AU, 2520 light minutes) from Mars.
